The New York Times today published a malicious editorial in a transparent attempt to control the narrative in the wake of the tragic attack yesterday against Steve Scalise and others Congressional Republicans by a staunch but unhinged Democrat and Bernie Sanders supporter James Hodgkinson.
The editorial attempted to draw a link between literature used by Sarah Palin’s political action committee and the assassination attempt on Congresswoman Gabby Giffords by mentally ill Jared Loughner in 2011:
Was this attack evidence of how vicious American politics has become? Probably. In 2011, Jared Lee Loughner opened fire in a supermarket parking lot, grievously wounding Representative Gabby Giffords and killing six people, including a 9-year-old girl. At the time, we and others were sharply critical of the heated political rhetoric on the right. Before the shooting, Sarah Palin’s political action committee circulated a map that showed the targeted electoral districts of Ms. Giffords and 19 other Democrats under stylized cross hairs.
The wording of the original editorial further stated that,
Conservatives and right-wing media were quick on Wednesday to demand forceful condemnation of hate speech and crimes by anti-Trump liberals. They’re right. Though there’s no sign of incitement as direct as in the Giffords attack, liberals should of course hold themselves to the same standard of decency that they ask of the right.
Later in the day, in response to a tsunami of criticism from both the left and the right, the NYT issued a correction, but no apology for its defamatory and inflammatory insinuations that were wholly debunked back in 2011. The NYT knew this accusation was false and had no basis in fact when they printed the editorial. This is the second instance where the NYT has defamed Sarah Palin. In an editorial in 2011, the NYT peddled the same conspiracy theory —again, without a shred of evidence to support it.
Have you no sense of decency, New York Times? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?
In light of this despicable editorial, how anyone can still refer to this newspaper as the “Paper of Record” is truly perplexing.
Without any of evidence to date that might support their wild suppositions, the NYT and its fellow travelers in the media such as CNN, have been deliberately and malevolently trying to drive out of office a president duly elected by the American people.
By recklessly and intentionally advancing a false narrative, the media has abrogated all journalistic standards and functions now as merely a communications organ for the Democratic Party.
It is precisely this type of irresponsible partisan rancor that contributes to the acromonious political atmosphere so prevalent now throughout the country and that helps precipitate deadly attacks carried out by murderous partisan lunatics like Hodgkinson.
